It has a history dating back to ancient Greece when the Spartans lead the fig trade and athletes fed almost entirely on figs, considering that they increased their strength and swiftness. The fig is considered one of the most succulent fruits although it is actually neither fruit nor flower. The fig has properties of both fruit and flower being a hollow receptacle enclosing a multitude of flowers which never see the light of day yet come to full perfection and ripen their seeds.
