Georgia has a long history in wine culture. In fact, preserved grape seeds and vines found in Georgia have been carbon dated back to 7000 BC. There are more than 60 commercially produced wines and nearly 500 varietals in Georgia. Georgian wines have been a favorite among Russians and Eastern Europeans for centuries and were savored by Tsars and Apparatchiks alike. Georgian wine, little known in the West, is regarded as the best in the former Soviet Union. Georgian vineyards are unique. These grapes won't ripen in other places, so there are no other wines like this.
